The SRT8 variant of 2009 Dodge Challenger provides a power up to 425 hp at 6000 rpm and the maximum torque of about 420 lb-ft at 4,800 rpm. The Challenger SE variant is powered by a 3.5 liter V6 engine that is capable of producing up to 250 horse power and a torque up to 250 lb-ft. The power of engine of the car is transmitted through 6-speed manual transmission. Special type of brakes known as Brembo brakes are included in the 2009 Challenger that are capable of stopping the car even at high speeds.

The Challenger SRT8 is known to provide fuel economy of 22 mpg on highways and 14 mpg on the city roads. In one of the car testing (lead footed testing), it could manage only 13.7 mpg in a highway cycle and mixed city roads.

On the light roads, HEMI can run with four cylinders because of one of the special technology known as cylinder deactivation technology. This is a special feature not included in most of the cars and it helps the car to be more fuel efficient. The Challenger is based on Chrysler's LX platform that is also used in Charger Sedans.

Some of the features of Challenger are quite exclusive, which are not limited to the standard options like hard-drive-navigation system, side curtain airbags and stability control. SRT is only one model that was introduced last year by Dodge. The SRT8 Challenger takes about 5.1 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph.
