• Know why the car stopped in the first place.

This usually occurs once you leave your car unused for a long time, or parked somewhere overnight. If an old battery is simply out of juice, all you have to do is replace it with a new one. But if leaving your car battery unused is the main problem, you can always proceed to jump starting it.
