Washington DC Car Pool Tips

in Car

With gas prices continuing to increase and people struggling to reduce their living expenses in a tough economy, many people decide to give car pooling a try. Car pools are an effective way to save money on gasoline costs, commuting, and reduce wear and tear on your vehicle over time. Additionally, car pooling reduces the number of vehicles on the road which improves traffic congestion and is better for the environment. Here are some tips from DC Infiniti for establishing a successful car pool:

Create a Schedule

A car pool rarely involves one person doing all of the driving, all of the time. This doesn't help the driver save money or wear and tear on his or her vehicle. Everyone in the car pool should have an equal share of driving time in their own car, or pay a higher amount toward the expenses to make up for not taking a turn as the driver.

Map Out The Driving Route

Car pools are effective, but not if each person attempts to have the car pool pick them up at various locations every day. Create the pick up points and drop off points in advance, and stick to them.

Determine Costs and Payments

Figure out if people will each contribute money to the car pool expenses for tolls and gasoline costs, or if each person will simply drive an equal amount of time- with the driver covering costs during his or her scheduled driving time.

Passenger Rules

Work out whether smoking will be allowed, eating and drinking, or music. These may seem like minor issues, but everyone needs to be on the same page or it can result in problems later.
